Green Card Holders Registered to Vote Without Citizenship Proof

Green Card Holders Registered to Voter Registration in Washington State Without Citizenship Checks

A new investigation has exposed how green card holders registered to voter registration rolls in Washington state are receiving ballots in the mail without ever providing documentary proof of citizenship. The process happens automatically when Canadian nationals and other permanent residents visit the Department of Motor Vehicles for driver’s licenses or renewals, and it relies entirely on self-attestation with no verification mechanism.

The findings center on lawful permanent residents who cross the border frequently between Washington and Canada. One green card holder described being detained for six hours at the Point Roberts border crossing after U.S. officials alleged she had falsely claimed citizenship and voted in American elections. She stated she had never voted and does not follow politics. Yet shortly after the border incident, she received a voter ballot guide in the mail.

Immigration attorney Len Saunders, based in Blaine, Washington, explained that many such individuals register unintentionally because the DMV application contains no citizenship questions. They either check a box without realizing the legal implications, or they receive a voter registration card in the mail after renewing a driver’s license online. A ballot follows.

Saunders noted that what federal authorities once treated as an innocent error now carries serious consequences. Individuals face charges of false claims of U.S. citizenship and unlawful voting. Both charges can trigger deportation proceedings even when the registration occurred without intent or knowledge.

Washington State DMV Voter Registration No Citizenship Checklist Creates Automatic Enrollment

Washington state operates an automatic voter registration system tied to driver’s license transactions. The system does not demand any form of citizenship documentation beyond a personal attestation. Applicants check a box. No documents are required. No verification occurs. The registration proceeds, and a ballot arrives by mail.

This structure exists across dozens of states that issue driver’s licenses without requiring proof of legal status or citizenship. The list of states that do not require documentary proof of citizenship includes Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

Many of these states also issue driver’s licenses to individuals present in the country unlawfully. When automatic registration at the DMV operates without documentary requirements, the same process that captures green card holders also captures illegal aliens. The system makes no distinction. A driver’s license transaction triggers voter registration. A ballot is mailed. No further identity or citizenship checks occur before the vote is cast.

Non-Citizen Voting Washington State 2023 Cases Trigger Federal Deportation Proceedings

The investigation shows that permanent residents who receive ballots and vote face federal charges even when they did not intend to break the law. Saunders described clients who thought the ballot arrival meant they were eligible, or who filled it out believing it was a survey or informational document. The federal government does not accept those explanations. The charges are false claims of U.S. citizenship and unlawful voting. Both are grounds for deportation.

The woman detained at Point Roberts said she does not remember whether she filled out a ballot. That response suggests either confusion about what documents she has completed over the years, or an awareness that admitting to voting would confirm the deportation charges. Either way, her case illustrates how the automatic system ensnares individuals who may not have intended to participate in U.S. elections.

Voter Registration Fraud Without Citizenship Documentation 2023 Extends to Illegal Alien Population

Conservative observers point out that the absence of verification creates a direct pathway for non-citizens to enter the voter rolls. States that grant driver’s licenses to illegal aliens and operate automatic voter registration at the DMV are combining two policies that together allow ineligible individuals to receive ballots. Ballot harvesting operations in several jurisdictions collect those ballots without additional identity checks. The result is a system where citizenship status is never confirmed at the point of registration or when votes are cast.

The investigation reveals this is not an isolated occurrence limited to Washington. The pattern repeats wherever automatic registration operates without documentary requirements. Green card holders who cross borders regularly and receive ballots demonstrate how easily the process captures non-citizens. Extending the same mechanism to states that grant licenses to individuals present unlawfully multiplies the exposure, turning routine government transactions into entry points for ineligible voting.

The lack of proof requirements at the DMV stands as the central flaw. Citizenship is a constitutional requirement for voting. States that register voters without verifying citizenship create elections vulnerable to participation by individuals who have no legal right to influence American outcomes. The system delivers ballots to their homes and trusts they will not return them. The evidence shows that trust is misplaced.

This structure leaves the integrity of the republic dependent on the self-restraint of individuals who may not understand the law, may not read English fluently, or may believe the ballot’s arrival signals their eligibility. That is not a safeguard. It is an invitation to systematic fraud.
