Durbin Exposed as Clueless While Grilling FBI Director Kash Patel
FBI Director Kash Patel demonstrated during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday why Democrats keep making utter fools of themselves every time they try to grill a Trump official. This time it was Senator Dick Durbin who got exposed as clueless — and it happened live, on camera, in a stunning exchange over the shooting of Miriam Martinez.
Durbin opened by pressing Patel on statements the director made on social media after Martinez was shot five times by federal agents. The senator called those statements false.

Patel did not flinch.
“Those false statements, according to you, are not false statements,” Patel fired back. “They’re clipped together to make it sound like I lied, and I didn’t.”
What unfolded next was a masterclass in how to handle a rigged question.
Durbin noted that Martinez has never been charged with a crime after being shot five times, despite video of the incident being handed over to the FBI and other agencies for review.
Patel asked a simple question: “You want her to be charged for being shot?”
When Durbin asked if Patel wanted her charged, the FBI Director shot back: “That’s what you just said.”
Durbin then tried to clarify he wouldn’t charge someone just for being shot — but the damage was done. Patel had already exposed the absurdity of the line of questioning.
The senator kept digging. He quoted Patel’s earlier statement: “Attack our law enforcement and the FBI will find you and bring you to justice.”
Durbin asked if shooting Martinez five times was Patel’s idea of justice.
Patel’s answer was crisp: “We didn’t shoot her.”
The director then explained that federal agents — not the FBI — carried out the shooting. And he made clear that his office is responsible for reviewing whether any civil rights violations occurred, and that he has not refused to conduct such a review.
Durbin closed his portion with a tired old line about not giving agents a blank slate.
It was a perfect snapshot of the difference between the two parties right now. Patel stood on facts and called out the clipping. Durbin tried to score a viral soundbite and ended up looking like a man who got caught trying to plant a rhetorical trap that snapped back on him.
This is the same senator, by the way, who spent years defending a corrupt FBI leadership that spied on a presidential campaign while pretending to care about civil liberties. Now he wants to lecture the director about the use of force? Spare us.
The American people are watching. They saw a no-nonsense FBI director take a hostile senator’s loaded questions and turn them into a prosecutorial cross-examination of the senator himself.
The Democrats have no plan, no message, and no leadership. They have only cheap gotcha moments that keep backfiring in the most public way possible.
