A new migrant caravan left San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on Tuesday, November 3, with the stated goal of reaching the United States, according to CNN en Español, which reported that dozens of people, including children traveling with their parents, set out from the city’s Gran Central Metropolitana bus terminal. Honduran outlet Once Noticias put the group at “at least 500” people, a figure that has not been independently confirmed.
CNN en Español reported that this is the third caravan to leave Honduras so far in 2026. The first left on September 20 with roughly 400 people, and the second left on October 13 with at least 500 adults and children, according to the network, citing Honduran media reports.

According to CNN en Español, the caravan was organized over about 20 days through social media and WhatsApp groups, where participants discussed the meeting point, travel date and the risks of the trip. One participant told the network the trip came together as a self-organized call on the internet. Once Noticias reported that the group planned to move through Choloma and Baracoa toward the Corinto crossing on the Guatemala border, and that Honduran National Police were escorting the movement.
Several travelers told reporters they were leaving because of a lack of jobs and insecurity at home. CNN en Español reported that one man in the group said he had lived in the United States for 26 years before being deported on September 15, and had already been turned back from Mexico twice since then. A mother traveling with three daughters told the network that U.S. Border Patrol agents detained her in 2021 minutes after she crossed the border, and that this is her second attempt.
Washington: “Zero chance”
The Trump administration has been blunt about what awaits caravans. In an October 31 post on X, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau wrote that caravans are “meticulously organized on social media” and became “a massive and lucrative business, primarily for criminal enterprises” under the prior administration. Landau wrote that organizers “continue to organize caravans that have ZERO CHANCE of entering our country,” and credited Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico for setting up checkpoints and working with the Department of Homeland Security to halt “mass illegal travel in its tracks.” The U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa shared the same message in Spanish, according to Once Noticias.
CNN en Español also reported that the State Department warned in an October 29 post on X that it would act against organizers who facilitate illegal immigration, and that anyone crossing the southern border without permission is breaking the law and will be detained and deported.
Landau’s message described the strategy as stopping caravans before they ever approach the U.S. border, with partner governments enforcing checkpoints along the route. Guatemala’s migration institute confirmed in mid-October that about 75 people from the previous caravan arrived at the Corinto border post, according to Prensa Libre, far fewer than the hundreds who left San Pedro Sula days earlier.
The government of Honduran President Nasry Asfura had not commented on the caravans as of Tuesday, according to CNN en Español.
For now, the question is how far this group gets. If the pattern from September and October holds, the caravan will hit regional checkpoints long before it gets anywhere near Texas or Arizona, which is exactly the outcome the administration says its source-country strategy was built to deliver.
