Elon Musk said Monday that he will give one of his own SpaceX shares to every child in America next year. “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many,” Musk wrote in a post on X early Monday morning.
Musk did not provide details on how the giveaway would be carried out, according to The Associated Press. Fox Business also reported that Musk did not say how the proposed giveaway would work, leaving open who would qualify and when the shares would be handed out.

A pledge worth more than $10 billion
The pledge could be worth more than $10 billion, according to the AP. The AP reported that SpaceX shares closed at $146.03 on Friday and that there are approximately 73 million children under 18 in the United States, which the AP said would put the value of Musk’s pledge at about $10.66 billion. ABC News said in a post on X that the pledge “could amount to over $10 billion.”
The AP also reported that SpaceX will report its quarterly earnings on Tuesday, a day after Musk’s announcement.
A response to Anthropic
Musk’s announcement came one day after artificial intelligence company Anthropic said it would commit a portion of its shares to a new public benefit fund, according to Fox Business and the AP. Anthropic said in a Sunday post on X that the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund “will start off with 5% of our shares,” and that the company could add more as its value grows, Fox Business reported.
Musk replied to Anthropic’s post on Sunday, writing, “I recommend giving the shares directly to the public,” according to the AP and Fox Business. Fox Business reported that Musk then indicated he planned to take that approach himself before posting his pledge on Monday. Bloomberg reported in a post on X that the pledge came after Anthropic said it would set aside a portion of its shares for the public benefit.
Could Trump Accounts carry the shares?
Brad Gerstner, the Altimeter Capital founder who has championed the Invest America Act behind the new Trump Accounts, cheered the pledge in a post on X that tagged the Trump Accounts account. “Incredible Elon! This will be the largest philanthropic gift in history!” Gerstner wrote. “70 M accounts – every citizen under 18 & every child born forevermore now has a free, lifetime investment acct making them an owner in the upside of America & our greatest companies!”
Musk himself has not said whether the shares will go through Trump Accounts or some other route, based on his post and the reports from the AP and Fox Business. For now, that path is a suggestion from supporters like Gerstner, not a stated plan.
Musk’s post had drawn more than 20 million views and more than 400,000 likes on X by Monday afternoon, according to the post’s public metrics on X. The Wall Street Journal said in a post on X that Musk’s pledge followed similar pledges by rivals, including Anthropic and other high-profile tech names.
Daily Beltway will update this story if Musk or SpaceX releases details on how the shares will be distributed.
