A child and an adult were killed Saturday afternoon after a driver went onto the fields during a youth soccer game at the Stryker Sports Complex in northeast Wichita, Kansas, according to the Wichita Police Department. Several other people were taken to area hospitals, police said, and their conditions have not been released.
The driver stayed at the scene and is in police custody, Wichita Police Capt. Aaron Moses told reporters, according to KWCH 12 News and CBS News. Moses said there is no ongoing threat to the public and called the incident a “tragedy,” KWCH reported.

Sedgwick County 911 began receiving multiple calls around 3:25 p.m. reporting that a vehicle had driven through a soccer game at the complex, near 29th Street North and Greenwich Road, according to KWCH and KMBC 9 News. Wichita police, other local law enforcement, the Wichita Fire Department and Sedgwick County EMS all responded, KWCH reported.
The Wichita Police Department first told the public in a post on X at about 4:30 p.m. Central that officers were on scene at 2999 Greenwich, that injuries were being reported and that first responders were transporting the injured. Minutes later, the department said in another post on X that it was investigating “a mass casualty incident involving a vehicle” and that there was “no further ongoing threat at this time.”
What police have said
Moses said the vehicle was a black truck and that two juveniles were inside it with the driver when it happened, according to KWCH and CBS News. KMBC reported that police did not say whether those juveniles were hurt.
Police have not released the names or ages of the two people who died, KWCH reported. Moses said he did not know how fast the truck was traveling or how it got onto the field, and said those details remain under investigation, according to KWCH. Police have not said whether the crash was intentional, and no charges have been announced.
A witness told KWCH that a black pickup “came plowing through the youth soccer fields hitting multiple people before stopping 100-200 yards down the fields,” and that dozens of emergency responders were giving CPR and rendering aid to victims.
The City of Wichita said in a statement that all events at the soccer complex have been canceled until further notice, according to CBS News. ABC News also reported, citing police, that a child and an adult were killed, others were hospitalized and the driver was in custody.
Police asked drivers to stay away from the area around 29th and Greenwich while the investigation continues, KWCH reported. The department is expected to give another update Saturday evening, according to KWCH.
Daily Beltway will update this story as Wichita police release more information on the victims, the injured, the driver and any charges.
