Vance: Iran Walks Away from Nuclear Deal After 21-Hour Marathon Talks

Vice President JD Vance announced Saturday that 21 hours of marathon nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran have ended without an agreement. The talks collapsed after Tehran refused to provide ironclad guarantees that it will not pursue nuclear weapons.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Pakistan, Vance delivered a clear message about American resolve. Iran walked away from reasonable terms rather than commit to long-term nuclear disarmament.

The Vice President praised Pakistani hosts for their diplomatic efforts. “Let me say a couple of notes of appreciation first of all to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and to Field Marshal Monier, who were both incredible hosts,” Vance said. “Whatever shortcomings of the negotiation, it wasn’t because of the Pakistanis who did an amazing job and really tried to help us and the Iranians bridge the gap and get to a deal.”

But Iran chose confrontation over compromise. “The bad news is that we have not reached agreement and I think it’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America,” Vance stated.

The Trump administration came to Pakistan with clear objectives. America demanded concrete assurances that Iran would abandon its nuclear weapons program permanently. Tehran refused those basic terms.

“The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon. That is the core goal of the President of the United States.”

Vance noted that Iran’s previous enrichment facilities have been destroyed. But the fundamental issue remains Tehran’s unwillingness to make long-term commitments. “Do we see a fundamental commitment of will for the Iranians not to develop a nuclear weapon, not just now, not just two years from now, but for the long term. We haven’t seen that yet.”

The negotiations covered multiple issues including Iran’s frozen assets. But no progress was made on any front because Iran rejected core American demands.

“We talked about all those issues,” Vance told reporters. “We talked about a number of issues beyond that. But again, we just could not get to a situation where the Iranians were willing to accept our terms.”

President Trump personally directed the negotiation strategy. “The President told us you need to come here in good faith and make your best effort to get a deal. We did that,” Vance said.

Throughout the grueling 21-hour sessions, Vance maintained constant communication with Trump and the national security team. “We were talking to the President consistently. I don’t know how many times we talked to him. I have a half dozen times,” Vance reported.

The Vice President also coordinated with key administration officials including Admiral Cooper, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and other national security principals.

America approached these talks with flexibility and good faith. Iran chose rigidity and rejection instead.

“I think that we were quite flexible, we’re quite accommodating,” Vance emphasized. “Unfortunately, we were unable to make any headway.”

As the American delegation prepared to depart Pakistan, Vance left a final offer on the table. “We leave here with a very simple proposal, a method of understanding that is our final and best offer. We’ll see if Iran accepts.”

This outcome reinforces the Trump administration’s maximum pressure strategy toward Iran. Unlike previous administrations that offered concessions for empty promises, this administration demands verifiable action on nuclear disarmament.

Iran now faces a clear choice. Accept reasonable American terms for nuclear oversight or continue down a path of international isolation.

The collapse of these talks demonstrates American strength, not weakness. When adversaries refuse to negotiate seriously, America walks away rather than accepting bad deals that endanger national security.

Iran’s nuclear infrastructure has already been significantly degraded through American action. The ball is now in Tehran’s court to decide whether they want continued confrontation or genuine peace through nuclear disarmament.
